The previous Guinness world record for the most comments on a single Facebook item is 529,335, in response to a post made on 10 January 2011, on the Facebook page for Roberto Esposito (Italy).

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most likes on a Facebook item in 24 hours: 588,243, as featured on the official page for Lil Wayne, a.k.a Dewayne Michael Carter, Jr. (USA) in response to a post made on 15 February 2011.

With slightly more than 100 people participating, each person had to comment on the post an average of about 9,300 times.

"we did not do this to make a name for ourself but simply to show our group what we can do when we try together nothing more," says Tracey Hodgson in a comment.

"Once you get the rhythm, you can go pretty fast," Cathy Matthews commented.

When asked by local news channel Fox40, Matthews said that she was aiming for the world record simply to make her mark on the world.

She's quoted as saying: "I'm no spring chicken anymore and I really haven't done anything phenomenal," laughed Matthews.
