The Guinness world record for the most widespread social networking message was set by #beatcancer, created by Everywhere and posted 209,771 times on Twitter by different individuals within 24 hours of its first appearance.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most "disliked" video on YouTube, set by the music video for Justin Bieber's (Canada) "Baby", with 1,490,076 "dislikes" as of 29 June 2011.

Collectively they issued an impressive 322,224 tweets and re-tweets of Bieber's rallying call on March 1, easily beating the previous record of 209,771 mentions recorded by a Beat Cancer Anywhere campaign in 2009.

Fans were also encouraged to donate $18 to charity:water, which provides clean water to those in need.

For his 17th birthday, his followers raised $47,148 to bring clean water to more than 2,357 people. This year, $12,621 has been raised so far.

Organized by AgencyNet, this year's birthday campaign took off quickly, the way things often do when it comes to social media and Bieber, and gathered so much momentum that more than 214,000 messages had gone out by 9:53 a.m.

Bieber has amassed a sizeable 17.8m followers on Twitter and garnered 40.8m 'likes' on Facebook.

He told MTV News: '18 requires a lot of responsibilities; moving out requires me to be alone, without my parents. So, legally, I can make any decision I want. My mom's still going to be there, probably, calling me every day. Probably won't be able to get away from her for too long. 18 is going to be fun. I look forward to a lot of touring and a lot of spending time with my fans, so 18 is going to be a great year.'

Justin Bieber received a surprise gift from his longtime manager during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
While discussing his milestone birthday with Ellen, Bieber's manager appeared and presented the singer with a highly coveted, eco-friendly Fisker Karma sports car, which he seemed to like.
The vehicle did not come cheap though. It would have cost the manager an estimated at $100,000.
