The Guinness world record for the fastest piggy back race over 100 m is 16.97 sec and was set by Rommell Griffith carrying Ulinda Griffith (both Barbados) as part of the Barbados World Record Festival.
Guinness World Records also recognized the largest sack race competition; it involved 2,095 competitors in an event involving pupils from Agnieton College and primary school pupils from Zwolle, Wezep and Hattem in Zwolle, Netherlands.
Race organiser Alan Richardson was delighted with the outcome. "...we're absolutely delighted. A big thank you to everybody at WestFest for taking part in the fun."
Dundee University lecturer Dominic Venditozzi claimed the title of first past the post, carrying his six-year-old daughter Lola.
According to The Courier, seconds after crossing the finishing line, he said, "It's wonderful — a bit wet but very satisfying. My dreams of competing in the Olympics were dashed last year when I broke my pinky, but this more than makes up for it!"
Festival chairwoman Paula McLure said, "What a fabulous day. It was so rewarding after the committee put so much effort into the organisation.
"We'd like to thank all the volunteers for a brilliant effort and all the sponsors for making it such a great occasion. To see so many people coming out for a community festival and enjoying it immensely was fantastic."
Dundee Westfest is a community led initiative in the West End of Dundee which aims to celebrate the city by harnessing the talents, skills and enthusiasm of local people to create a memorable and enjoyable annual festival.
