CHARLESTON, West Virginia, USA--The Rev. Donnie Russell found an egg which is 2.1 centimeters long, or about the size of a penny, and weighs 3.46 grams - setting the new world record for the Smallest Chicken Egg, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

The Guinness world record for the most smallest chicken egg is 2.7 centimeters.

Donnie Russell has said that he found the egg last month on his farm in West Virginia - it's 2.1 centimetres long, or a bit bigger than a penny, and weighs 3.46 grams - a little more than one-tenth of an ounce.

He said that he and his wife keep about a dozen chickens and give the eggs away. He said the bird he believes laid the egg is a normal-size chicken.

"We thank the good Lord above for this being a West Virginia egg," he said.

"I'm very pleased that Rev. John Spencer Russell and others are keeping agriculture alive in the Mountain State, and that he takes obvious pride in being a West Virginia farmer."
