Sergeant Owen Duff, Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician
based out of McChord Air Force Base, Washington ran one mile
in 9 minutes and 22 seconds while wearing the 80 pound suit
and raising money for the wounded EOD

Duff, Explosive Ordnance dons a bomb suit in honor of his
fallen EOD brethren. He set the new world record for the Fastest
mile in a bomb suit in a time of 9 minutes and 22 seconds.

The previous
world record for the Fastest mile in a bomb suit
was set by Navy Lt. Jonathan Kehoe, commander, Platoon
602, 63rd Battalion, EOD Mobilization Unit 6, based out of
Little Creek, Va., and attached to 2nd Brigade Combat Team,
4th Infantry Division, who completed the mile in a bomb suit
in 10 minutes and 13 seconds.
“I first heard of the event while
working with the navy at Camp Speicher, with EOD being a common
bond between services I just had to try it” says Air Force
SSgt Owen Duff.
Duff trained for the world record attempt
using a high intensity training and weight lifting program
that has become very popular throughout the armed forces,
Crossfit.
“Using the main page Crossfit site, also words
of encouragement from my home affiliate Crossfit Spokane,
I was able to keep myself motivated and entertained through
each workout everyday” Said SSgt Duff.
“All the hard work and dedication that was put
into this event doesn't hold a candle to the ultimate sacrifice
made my so many of our EOD brethren, our hearts go out to
the families that are living without there father; brother,
husband, wife, and sons.”
