The previous world record for the Fastest mile in a bomb suit was set by Navy Lt. Jonathan Kehoe, commander, Platoon 602, 63rd Battalion, EOD Mobilization Unit 6, based out of Little Creek, Va., and attached to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, who completed the mile in a bomb suit in 10 minutes and 13 seconds.

“I first heard of the event while working with the navy at Camp Speicher, with EOD being a common bond between services I just had to try it” says Air Force SSgt Owen Duff.

Duff trained for the world record attempt using a high intensity training and weight lifting program that has become very popular throughout the armed forces, Crossfit.

“Using the main page Crossfit site, also words of encouragement from my home affiliate Crossfit Spokane, I was able to keep myself motivated and entertained through each workout everyday” Said SSgt Duff.

“All the hard work and dedication that was put into this event doesn't hold a candle to the ultimate sacrifice made my so many of our EOD brethren, our hearts go out to the families that are living without there father; brother, husband, wife, and sons.”

The proceeds raised by this event were in support of the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation as well as the EOD memorial.

The memorial features the names of the fallen EOD members since the World War II, it is located at Eglin Air Force Base Florida.
