The Guinness world record for the The largest fishing tournament was the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo which involved 2,220 participants.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most participants in a sea angling competition: 785, achieved by Blue Sea Sport Angling Club (Malta).
The original lure is a handmade lure made by local legend David Partridge, owner of "Flatliner Lures."
The new World's Largest Fishing Lure adorns its title with its pink dotted side, silver back, colorful orange bottom and three sets of treble hooks.
It took Mark Davis and his team more than 10 months to plan and build the giant hook. He was inspired by his wife, Mary Ellen, and her family, who were one of the original settlers in the Destin area.
They arrived in the area in the late 1800's and have been part of the Fishing scene ever since.
The World's Largest Fishing Lure even has a drink named after it, which is available at Sandestin's Baytowne Marina Bar and Grill, where crowds visit resident parrots Gilligan and Maryann, and celebrate sunset each day with the ringing of the bell and blowing of the cannon.
