  Longest stationary bike riding-George Hood sets new world record
[May 15]NAPERVILLE, IL, USA--George Hood spent about 178 hours over eight days riding a spinning bike at a suburban YMCA, setting the new world record for the Longest stationary bike riding.   He rode the equivalent of 2,016 miles, burned more than 46,000 calories and never slept for more than 12 minutes at a time.
   He took 57 breaks with a combined elapsed time of 12 hours and 40 minutes. Of that time 9 hours and 36 minutes were used for sleep.
  "My body took a beating," he told the Chicago Tribune. "My quads are very sore, and I'm stiff. But it's nothing a hot bath won't cure."
  He trained for the ride at the X Sport Fitness Center in Naperville. (more...)


 Tallest Lego Tower- Legoland park sets world record
[May 6]LEGOLAND Park, Windsor,UK--Thousands of children and their families helped build the 100ft. Lego tower which sets the world record for the Tallest Lego Tower.

   The park's special events manager, Penny Jenkins, said: "We are thrilled to bring the World Record to Legoland Windsor after four days of hard work, not to mention nearly 500,000 bricks, and it now stands at nearly 100ft.
  Positioned at the park's main entrance, it is made up of almost half a million Lego bricks and celebrates 50 years of the popular children's toy. (more...)


  Longest-Burning Light Bulb-"The Centennial Ligh" sets world record
[May 5] LIVERMORE, CA,USA-- A 5-watt carbon filament bulb burning in the Fire Department, Livermore, south Alameda County, California, which has been burning since 1901, sets the world record for the Longest Burning Light Bulb.

   The Livermore lightbulb never gets turned off, which many suspect is the secret to its longevity.
    The average bulb last for 750-1,000 hours. Livermore's bulb has burned for nearly a million hours.

  Largest Gantry Crane-Taisun sets world record
[May 5] YANTAI, China--The world's largest fixed dual-beam gantry crane was recently launched in a shipyard in the port city of Yantai in the northeastern province of Shandong, China.

  The 22,000-ton lifting capacity gantry was named after the province's famous sacred mountain Taisun.
    The lifting equipment, owned by Yantai Raffles Shipyard Ltd., was certified by the American Bureau of Shipping for lifting a 22,146-ton launch barge last Saturday, setting a new heavy lift world record. (more...)


   Cheapest car - Tata Nano sets world record
[May 5] NEW DELHI, India--Tata Motors has unveiled the Tata Nano, will sell for 100,000 rupees ($2,500 or £1,277), setting the wold record for the cheapest car.

[May 5] WINGRAVE, UK--At 19in (48cm) tall the "Flatmobile", built by Perry Watkins, sets the world record for the lowest car.

[May 4] LADUE,MO,USA--693 Students from all four elementary schools of the Ladue School District beat the World Record for the largest game of "Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes" at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.

 Most hours spent flying the F-16 -Air Force pilot sets world record
[May 3] Balad Air Base, IRAQ--By the time Lieutenant Colonel Michael Brill touched down after a combat mission over Iraq earlier today, he had broken his own world record for the most hours spent flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Brill, a 421st Expeditionary Fighter Squadron pilot, has logged more than 6,000 hours in the F-16.

[May 3]HONOLULU, Hawaii--May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii and Honolulu set the world record for the Longest Lei: a 5,336 feet in lengh (1,626 metres) lei that stretched for more than a mile at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki.

  Most expensive license plate-Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri sets world record
[April 30] TEHERAN, Iran--A businessman named Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri paid 52.2 dirham ($14.3 million) for the local license plate labeled "1" at an auction at the 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, setting the world record for the most expensive license plate.
   "From 1 to 10, these are the most expensive numbers," said Abdulla al Mannaie (photo), managing director of Emirates Auctions.

 Longest Limbo Skating-Aniket Chindak sets new world record
[April 30] BELGAUM, INDIA--Aniket Ramesh Chindak, the official world champion at skating under cars, has set a new world record for the longest limbo-skating by squeezing himself under a row of 82 Tata Sumo vehicles in in just 53.02 seconds.
   "The hardest part is to go fast enough before I bend down, because that's how you can skate under so many cars at once," said Aniket to The New Indian Express.

[April 29] LAKE GENEVA,Wis,USA--1269 participants performed the bunny hop twist, which consisted of people wearing bunny ears and dancing the twist and sets the world record for the largest bunny hop twist.

  Worst nuclear plant accident-world record set by Chernobyl
[April 26] CHERNOBYL, Ukraine--The "Chernobyl disaster", reactor accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, or simply "Chernobyl", sets the world record for worst nuclear power plant accident in history and the only instance so far of level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale, resulting in a severe nuclear meltdown.

   On April 26, 1986 at 1:23:40 a.m., reactor 4 suffered a catastrophic steam explosion resulting in a nuclear meltdown, a series of additional explosions and a fire; the radiation was not contained and radioactive particles were carried by wind across international borders.

 Largest group hug-world record set by Ottawa students
[April 25] OTTAWA, Canada--More than 10,000 students and teachers from 10 Ottawa-area schools joined forces Friday to shatter the world record for the largest group hug (Bear hug).
  The group hug, a fundraiser for cancer care in the Capital, spanned from Laurier Street to the Pretoria Bridge along the Rideau Canal. (enlarge photo)
   "It's amazing that there's so many people doing this for a good cause," Simon Tomlinson, a student at St. Matthew's High School, told CTV News.  
   
The group was able to raise more than $110,000 for cancer care prior to the day's hug. Organizers say they hope the total figure will reach $300,000. (more...)

[April 24] LEUVEN, Belgium--Students in the Belgian city of Leuven, some 30 km (18.6 miles) east of Brussels, have set the new world record for most Mentos and Soda fountains by launching 1,360 simultaneous geysers.

   A Mentos candy 'mint flavored' added to a bottle of Diet Coke causes a reaction resulting in a foam fountain up to nine meters (29 feet) high.

  Largest cheering team-world record set by McDonald's
[April 24] BEIJING, China--Chanting the slogan "Wo jiu xihuan Zhongguo ying," which roughly translates to "I love it when China wins," over 1,200 young people selected from a nationwide campaign danced in unison for five minutes at the National Olympic Sports Center, setting a world record.
   McDonald's, a worldwide Olympic partner for the Beijing Olympics, mobilized the world's largest cheering team for the Beijing Olympics on Wednesday.

 Largest artwork made of TV sets-world record set by LNK Infotree
[April 23] EUROPOS PARKAS, Lithuania--The sculpture LNK Infotree created by Lithuanian artist Gintaras Karosas is made of about 3000 TV sets, spans an area of 3,135 square metres and sets the world record for the largest artwork made of TV sets.
   All Lithuania has taken part in the creation of a labyrinth of television sets, titled LNK Infotree.

   People from various Lithuanian towns donated old TV sets after an appeal from Europos Parkas was broadcast on LNK television.
