The giant cigar – “El
Gigante” – was commissioned by the Gran Habano Cigar
Co. of Miami and was produced in its GR Tabacalera Unidas
factory in Danli, Honduras.
According to Gran Habano’s George
Rico, “We wanted to make the world’s largest production
cigar. It’s a way to showcase our brands of cigars.”
The World's
Largest Production Cigar is a true production cigar
and can be special ordered by anyone willing to try it. The
blend is the same as a Gran Habano Corojo #5. A team of 50
worked on the project for 20 days.
The Largest
Production Cigar in The World reportedly includes
more than 11,000 individual tobacco leaves. It weighs a little
more than a ton – 2,200 pounds – with the furniture [support].
It’s so big that it is perched on
a custom-made wooden cart, complete with rollers, and protected
by a giant wooden covering similar in style to a cigar tube!
A special team of personnel has been dedicated
to making this special cigar for anyone who places an order.
All orders must be placed through Gran
Habano directly and the suggested MSRP is set at $200,000.
While this first cigar will go to a museum for
display, Gran Habano has created this vitola for smoking!
Gran Habano
has developed a device that would go on the cap of the cigar. This
device will allow 200 people to smoke the cigar simultaneously.
The Corojo
#5 El Gigante will make its debut appearance June
25th at the Famous Smoke Shop Cigar Expo in Easton, PA.
It will also journey around the country
making appearances at official Gran Habano AZTECA events and
at the annual International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers
(IPCPR) convention.
Gran Habano Cigars was founded in 1995 by
Guillermo Rico and his son George Rico. Using only the best
raw materials on earth, Gran Habano begins the growing process
with Habano and Corojo seeds which are grown on company-owned
farms in Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
The previous Guiness world record for cigar
girth is believed to be 24 inches.
The
world
record for the longest cigar was set by
